P O P U L A T I O N C E N S U S
Population
District Pulwama extending over an area of 1090 sq. kms comprising
of 323 census villages. It has a total population of 5.70(P) lakhs as
per the census of 2011.
T
he population of the district as per 1991 has
been estimated to 5.16 lakhs. The district has recorded population
growth rate of 29.18% during the decade (2001-11)
Population is mostly rural & 12.70% of it resides in towns. The biggest
ethnic group is Muslim accounting for 95.88 % of population followed by Hindus
2.50 % & others 1.62 %. As per 2001 census working force accounts for 23.77
% of population. The main occupation engaging
in the work force are
cultivators, Manufacturing & processing & other than household sectors
& Agriculture lab our engaging 79.84 % of the working force. Details of

increased to 5.16 lacs in 1991 with the density of 369 persons per sq.km. the
